Moving to Puigpunyent · step by step

The checklist

Six steps
for a new resident.

General guidance, checked in October 2026. Offices change their rules; confirm before you go.

1

A home and its papers

Everything starts with an address. Keep your rental contract, or your deed (escritura) or latest property tax bill if you bought. Rentals · homes for sale

2

Register at the town hall

Everyone who lives in Spain must register in the town where they live: the padrón or empadronamiento. In Puigpunyent that is the Ajuntament on Carrer sa Travessia 37. It is free. Bring your passport or ID, proof of address and the registration form, and sign in person.

3

EU citizens: the green certificate

If you stay more than three months, apply within three months for the EU registration certificate, the green paper with your NIE number. Book an appointment (cita previa) online with the Policía Nacional for the Illes Balears, then go to the office in Palma with form EX-18, the fee form 790 code 012 (€12), your ID, proof of work, studies or sufficient means, and your padrón certificate.

4

Non-EU citizens

You need a visa or residence authorisation that fits your situation first, and then a TIE card with photo and fingerprints. The process and income rules are different; a lawyer or gestor is worth it.

5

Health card

With your padrón and residence paperwork, apply for the public health card at the village health centre on Carrer sa Travessia. Workers and the self-employed are covered by Social Security; others may need private insurance or the public paid scheme. Health numbers

6

Then the rest

Bank account, schools, driving licence and car registration, and local taxes such as the property tax (IBI) and vehicle tax. Ask the town hall how each is paid in Puigpunyent. Schools

Good to know

Tips that
save a morning.

Book early

Appointments for residence paperwork in Palma are scarce. Check the booking site daily for cancellations.

Copies of everything

Bring originals and photocopies. Documents not in Spanish or Catalan may need an official translation.

Padrón first

The padrón certificate is asked for almost everywhere, and many offices want it to be less than three months old.
